From natural resources to the police and fire departments, 16 outgoing City Council commissioners were honored recently in Highland Park by Mayor Nancy Rotering for their dedicated volunteer service to the city’s various boards and commissions.
Advisers are chosen by the mayor with council approval to help guide governance at the local level. Each has an opportunity to contribute ideas and efforts toward improving the quality of community life. At present, Highland Park operates 19 different boards and commissions, with more than 100 unpaid volunteers donating their time.
“Each of these individuals has made a significant impact on the quality of life in our community,” Mayor Rotering said. “Being on a board, commission or task force requires a significant personal commitment. We are thankful for their time, guidance and expertise."
Outgoing commissioners include Bruce Farrell Dorn from the Board of Fire and Police; Sallye Mason and Robert Mintz of Business and Economic Development; Stephen Eisenman of the Cultural Arts Commission; Judy Bramson, Mary Curran and David Rotholz of the Historic Preservation Commission; and Betsy Brint from the Human Relations Commission.
Additionally, three Natural Resources commissioners were recognized (Nancy Hannick, Donald Matthews and Dr. Stephen Rheinstrom) along with Ravinia Festival Community Relations Commissioner Patricia Sanders and four Transportation commissioners (Sally Higginson, Richard Hocking, Ross Meitin and Michael Wagner).
