Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) will have an array of sustainable waste options, ranging from organic to electronic upgrades, for Highland Park residents this spring.
Consumers can expect improved options for organic food scrap bins, electronic recycling and even use of a radio frequency identification chip embedded within their bins.
In organic and landscape services, customers can commingle food scraps with yard waste during landscape season, from April 1 to Dec. 15, with a choice of two kinds of service.
For electronic recycling, LRS reiterates that Illinois landfills do not allow electronics. As per its agreement with the city, LRS will collect one electronic waste item per household per month. Items are collectable from the curbside on the first pickup of each month at no additional charge.
Staying current with technology, Lakeshore also announces that as of July 1, all new recycling carts will contain radio frequency identification (RFID) chips to track usage and facilitate audits in the future.
LRS is also continuing its cart exchange program; customers can select from three sizes: 35-, 65-, or- 95-gallon containers.
