Gov. Bruce Rauner's budget address on Wednesday received praise from Dawn Abernathy, a GOP candidate running for the Dist. 59 state House seat.

"Today, Gov. Rauner proposed a balanced budget that reflects the priorities of the people of Illinois," Abernathy said. "Increased funding for our schools so every child has access to great schools -- the truly vulnerable in our community have social services that can provide for their needs, money for higher education."

Abernathy also said she believes the governor's budget plan will bring more businesses to Illinois, offering more jobs.

Rauner's latest plan, unveiled at the Statehouse, touched on the state's need for a balanced budget, as well as reforms to address how the budget crisis became so dire. Rauner said he was willing to work with Democrats to come to an agreement on the budget.

Abernathy supported the governor's offer to work with Democrats.

"I think the governor made it clear he is willing to work with the General Assembly and work across party lines for a balanced budget alongside reforms that will grow the economy and benefit the taxpayers of Illinois," Abernathy said.

Abernathy is running against Democratic incumbent Carol Sente.
