Libertyville Bicycle Advisory Commission plans June ride

Bike route

To update event plans, the Libertyville Bicycle Advisory Commission met at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Libertyville Village Hall.

After reviewing the minutes of the commission’s Jan. 26 meeting, the board discussed this year’s community bike ride, tentatively scheduled for June 4, to determine the meeting place, time and route.

Several routes in Libertyville were suggested, keeping in mind that riders would be better off avoiding Milwaukee Avenue. The Forest Preserve trails were indicated as an optimum route, with the ride beginning at Copeland Manor School.

Special Use Permit Coordinator Ryan Isom responded to committee inquiries about obtaining a permit for the bike ride in a letter dated Feb. 8, specifying terms of agreement.

Isom disclosed fee structures for permitting, shelter usage and deposit costs, indicating that the application fee is $100.

The group will be required to provide an estimated number of participants, volunteers and staff; contact information for vendors; and a description of refreshments being served for the event.

In addition to the bike ride event itself, May 16 to May 20 was designated as Bike to Work Week in Libertyville, with the commission suggesting that Police Chief Clint Herdegen issue a proclamation.

Finally, a discussion about signage materials was updated for a “Share the Road” campaign.
