The Vernon Hills village board met at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 290 Evergreen Drive to honor a police officer and tackle construction matters.
Village President Robert Byrne issued a proclamation in remembrance of Officer Andy Rheintgen who passed away on Feb. 17 following a battle with esophageal cancer, just one day after entering hospice via ambulance.
“As the ambulance went through town, dozens of police officers…friends, family members and village employees stood along Rt. 60 to show their respect, love and support for Andy,” a village spokesperson said.
Rheintgen served Vernon Hills for more than 16 years; the village is selling specially designed T-shirts to commemorate Officer Rheintgen and support his family, with details available at the Police Department at 740 Lakeview Parkway.
On a lighter note, the board approved a request by Lambs Farm to hold “Popcorn Days” on May 6 and May 7, along with giving permission to buy a replacement scanner, pickup truck and maintenance contract for public works equipment.
The board approved routine matters via an omnibus vote, encompassing vouchers, bills and bonds.
Reminders were issued for two upcoming meetings: a proposed Milwaukee Avenue/Townline Road Redevelopment Project Area joint review at 5 p.m. March 9 and the next village board and COW meetings on March 16.
