From proclamations to property matters and concerts to compensation, Waukegan’s City Council covered substantial ground when it convened for its 7 p.m. Monday meeting at 100 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
Waukegan Main Street and the Lake County Community Concert Association opened with presentations prior to regular business, payroll and bills. Council members then handled several conditional use permits, map amendment and rezoning requests as well as other property matters under the judiciary committee’s authority.
Local organizations submitted a variety of requests. Two schools asked for raffle sale permission, and the Waukegan Arts Council has planned a gospel fest for July 9, requesting the use of Steiner Pavilion for the occasion from noon until dusk.
In public safety and public works, software and vehicle purchases were discussed, and four worker’s compensation claims were on the table for authorization in amounts between approximately $34,000 and $57,000 a piece.
Level 3 Communications LLC asked for an addendum to allow the additional installation of equipment at 2200 S. Lakeside Drive and 2105 S. Lakeside Drive.
The council also considered a contract with Deigan & Associates LLC of Lake Bluff for lakefront coordination services, including grants and project management. By entering into an agreement with the firm, the city can postpone hiring a lakefront coordinator as an interim solution.
Time was allotted to audience participation prior to adjourning.
