Running for the 58th District's state House seat, Republican Martin “Marty” Blumenthal recently identified a list of core values and approaches as his top priorities in his quest to restore statewide balance.
“Family comes first,” Blumenthal said in one item on the list, along with, “Integrity matters.”
Blumenthal also said justice and service above self should prevail; honesty is a given.
“Humility is a gift,” another item on the list said, along with, “Bipartisanship is a must.”
These are just some of the standards that Blumenthal values, and he said that through his leadership, he can help convince constituents to remain in Illinois through this difficult time.
“I want to help you stay in Illinois,” Blumenthal said. “Our property taxes are the highest in the nation. As I write this, we do not have a balanced budget in place, as our Constitution requires. We have lost over 100,000 manufacturing jobs to Wisconsin and Indiana in the past several years.”
Citing Illinois’ disproportionately high workers' compensation premiums and taxes as factors fueling the exodus, Blumenthal expressed a desire to keep constituents economically secure.
“We (also) must address the serious pension debt affecting our schools and government,” Blumenthal said. “I want to make sure our local environment is safe and clean.”
Blumenthal, an attorney and CPA for over 35 years, specializes in taxation, civil and criminal litigation, and business law. He is a member of the bar of the Supreme Courts of Illinois and Wisconsin, United States Tax Court and federal courts in Chicago and elsewhere.
Blumenthal has lived in Highland Park with his family since 1985.
