Rod Drobinski, the Republican candidate for the District 62 state House seat, said local budgets, taxes and schools are affecting each other in big ways and increasing taxes are forcing Illinois residents to leave the state.
“The most important issues facing our state include the ever rising taxes overall, including property taxes, that are pushing residents and jobs out of our state,” Drobinski said. “My opponent has co-sponsored bills that would raise our property taxes and would increase taxes on small businesses and seniors.”
The unbalanced budget in Illinois is not helping to balance out the taxes in the state.
“We also need to stop Springfield politicians from spending money we don't have,” Drobinski said. “Unbalanced budgets are completely unacceptable, and my opponent consistently votes for budgets that spend billions more than we have.”
The taxes and budgets have also negatively affected schools, as they are forced to cut budgets and restructure to try to stretch their funds.
“Finally, we have to make sure that our schools are protected from the political games played in Springfield,” Drobinski said.
In addition, Drobinski supports the the Independent Map Amendment; he agrees that Illinois maps need to more realistically represent the state.
“Should politicians get to lock in incumbents and deter challengers from running by drawing legislative districts that look like a drawing (a child) would make, or should we have an independent, impartial, transparent process for drawing legislative maps?” Drobinski said on Facebook. “Why don't we let the voters decide?”
Drobinski is facing Rep. Sam Yingling (D - Grayslake) in November.
