The Metra Board of Directors said late last week that it unanimously elected Norm Carlson as chairman.
Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor said, in regard to the vote, that he is confident Carlson will bring the leadership needed to promote growth within the City of Chicago and its suburban areas.
“Over the past few years, Metra has worked hard to regain the public’s trust, put the agency on stronger financial footing and make important operational changes to modernize the agency,” Lawlor said. “Norm has been an important part of these efforts. As chairman of the Metra Board, I know Norm will put his more than 30 years of railroad and transportation expertise to work on behalf of Metra’s riders and the Chicago region’s taxpayers. As the Metra chairmanship rotates back from the City of Chicago and Cook County to the Collar Counties, Norm will bring strong suburban leadership that recognizes that the vibrancy of our region relies on both a successful Chicago and thriving suburbs.”
