Todd Fryatt, CEO and founder of ECA Solar, said that the Lake Villa Community Energy Initiative will deliver local savings, jobs, tax revenue, and habitat enhancements while preserving land for public use.

"Founded in 2014 and proudly 100% employee-owned, ECA Solar believes in being woven into the fabric of the communities we serve," said Fryatt. "every project we take on is about giving back. supporting local economies, and leaving communities better than we found them."

A 29-acre solar farm is set to be developed on the outskirts of Lake Villa, representing a significant investment in the community's sustainable future. ECA Solar plans to purchase 48 acres in total but will only utilize what is necessary for the solar installation. The remaining land will be preserved for public benefit. Upon completion of construction, the company intends to donate the unused acreage back to Lake Villa for parks, recreation, or future community development. This strategy supports renewable energy goals while ensuring long-term environmental stewardship and local enrichment.

The initiative aims to offer 1,100 resident subscriptions, providing locals with priority access and a 10% discount on clean energy. Over its 35-year lifespan, the project is projected to save the community $6.5 million and generate over $1 million in tax revenue for schools, roads, and local programs. With pollinator-friendly plants, sheep grazing for natural maintenance, and new local job opportunities, the solar farm emphasizes both environmental and economic sustainability.

According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois recognizes "pollinator-friendly" solar sites under the Pollinator-Friendly Solar Site Act. To claim this designation, owners or managers must complete and pass the state's Solar Site Pollinator Scorecard and adhere to vegetation management practices that enhance habitat. This framework supports plantings that attract bees and butterflies and guides long-term site care on solar facilities statewide.

Fryatt leads ECA Solar as an independently owned company focused on community-scale solar projects. Company materials highlight relationship-driven development, local economic benefits, and environmental stewardship. His leadership centers on delivering de-risked, high-quality projects that integrate with host communities and support grid diversification.
