Winter Fest, a free day of outdoor activities for families, was held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, near the pavilion in Century Park North in Vernon Hills, according to www.vhparkdistrict.org.
Activities included a skills demonstration from the Free Spirit Sled Dog Demo Team, s'mores by the fire, ice skating, sledding and horse-and-carriage rides. An ice-sculpture artist made a sculpture during the event, as well.

Additionally, the park district held a School's Out Program 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Hawthorn Elementary North, 301 Hawthorn Parkway. Activities included games, arts and crafts, and sports.
