Steve Lentz takes pride in his accomplishments as mayor of Mundelein for the past four years, but he says his work is far from over.
“We completed a brand new village hall on budget and ahead of schedule using a private-public partnership,” Lentz, who is seeking re-election, told the Lake County Gazette.
He also sees momentum toward downtown development in the village of 31,000.
“We’ve had several developers discussing with us other projects in the area,” Lentz said. “I’m running for re-election to keep the downtown redevelopment going.”
Lentz said he plans to "aggressively pursue redevelopment" of Oak Creek Plaza.
He also points to incentives that facilitate business improvements, such as renovated building exterior landscaping.
The Business Incentive Grant program funneled more than $75,000 to businesses, including Hawley Lake Plaza, which made a $1.5 million renovation in exchange for a partial rebate of sales tax.
Existing local businesses like Sysmex Corp. and Larsen Manufacturing have expanded their facilities, and new businesses have come to town.
“One of the largest law firms in Lake County, KSN, relocated to Mundelein from Buffalo Grove,” Lentz said.
Lentz worked to make street improvements during term as well. undelein completed more than $20 million in road and infrastructure improvements in one construction season, a first-time accomplishment for the village.
“My theme is keep Mundelein moving forward, and I intend to do that in those three areas,” Lentz said.
In addition to serving as mayor, Lentz is the director of Education and Research for OptionVue Systems International Inc.
Prior to serving as mayor, he was a village trustee and chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
Lentz is running against Holly Kim and Ray Ladewig.
