State Rep. Elaine Nekritz (D-Northbrook) recently notified Democratic Party committeemen in Illinois House District 57 that she will be resigning before the end of her current term, according to a report from Capitol Fax.
“It has been an honor to serve as state representative from the 57th District since 2003,” Nekritz wrote. “I have worked diligently from the day I was elected to represent the good people of this district and this state with humility and passion. But after careful thought, it is time for me to step back and create an opportunity for a new leader who can take on our state’s tremendous problems with the same mindset.”
In her letter, addressed to the Democratic committeemen for Palatine, Northfield and Wheeling townships and the Lake County Democratic chair, Nekritz said she wanted to give them time to begin the process of selecting the right person to follow her, but she would be leaving "at the appropriate time before the end of my term."

“… That’s a huge loss for the House and for the state,” Rich Miller wrote on his Capitol Fax website. “Elaine is a quality legislator and highly respected. But she’s been supremely frustrated with this impasse and I don’t blame her for moving on. I think there will be more of these, by the way. Lots more, particularly if nothing is done by the end of June.”
