The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has published its second quarter 2025 monitoring results for ethylene oxide emissions at the Vantage facility in Gurnee. According to the data, Vantage released a total of 20.23 pounds of ethylene oxide year-to-date, which is 18.39% of its permitted annual limit. Of this amount, 16.46 pounds were fugitive emissions, accounting for 27.44% of the allowed annual total.
Vantage operates under restrictions set by Public Act 101-0023 and its Construction Permit, which cap total annual emissions at 110 pounds and fugitive emissions at no more than 60 pounds. The Q2 report noted that three out of over 740 monitored components were found leaking during the quarter; these components have since been repaired.
The full second quarter report can be accessed on the IEPA website through this link: construction-permit-19100015-q2-25.pdf. Previous reports are available on the agency’s site at https://epa.illinois.gov/topics/community-relations/sites/ethylene-oxide.html.
