Lake Forest FD responds to 50 fires in 2016

Lake Forest Fire Department responded to 718 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Lake County Gazette.

The calls in Lake Forest included 50 fires - 27 structure fires, 10 vehicle fires and 12 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $390,520 in fire loss - or about $7,810 per fire.

The department also received 668 false calls, including one malicious call and 667 other false calls.

12 fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Lake Forest Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 32 active employees and 37 retired or inactive employees, was $1,786,779 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $35,736 for every fire in 2016.
