Lake County Board member Tom Weber of Lake Villa has entered the District 64 state representative race.
Weber said in a press release that while he has been honored to be on the county board, he believes he can help area residents better by being in the Legislature.
“Taxpayers don’t need people giving up; they need an advocate willing to fight for them,” he said in the release. “This is why I have decided to enter the race for state representative.”

Weber and his wife, Becki, live on a farm in Lake Villa where he grew up. He was in the construction industry for 30 years and has started two construction-related businesses. He has been on the Lake County Board since 2012.
The District 64 House seat is currently held by Rep. Barbara Wheeler (R-Crystal Lake), who is not running for re-election. Wheeler recently endorsed Weber to replace her, Weber's website said.
“Tom grew up in and has been a lifelong resident of Lake County, where he has raised his family and made a huge impact as both a community member and public official,” Wheeler said on the website.
District 64 includes parts of Lake and McHenry counties.
