Jesiel gets first-hand look at Zion school's new high-tech learning facilities

Zion elementary

Rep. Sheri Jesiel (R-Winthrop Harbor) recently visited the newly renovated facilities at Zion Elementary District 6's Zion Central Middle School that prepares students for the ever changing technological real world.

“It’s great to see how District 6 is taking this innovative approach to improving their learning environment for students,” Jesiel said in a press release. “Implementing programs focused on the changing practical and technological skills needed to succeed is exactly what is needed as our career environment continues to change so rapidly in the 21st century.”

The renovated facilities allow students to prepare for practical growth outside of school through offerings such as the Trades Spaces program that offers a hands on learning experience for gaining knowledge about relevant trades such as mechanics, plumbing, electrical work and culinary arts, the release said. An Opportunity Excelerate program allows students to learn relevant material based on their individual academic, behavioral and social-emotional needs.

The renovations at Zion Central Middle School also include updates to classrooms and the library where new high-tech elements give students access to interactive learning and collaborative spaces, the release said.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and was excited to observe the enthusiasm that the students and teachers have for these new opportunities to learn relevant skills,” Jesiel said in the release.
