City of Highwood City Council met January 02. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the council:

Call to Order by Mayor Pecaro at 7:30 p.m.


     1. Roll Call

Present: Mayor Pecaro, Aldermen: Grice, Hospodarsky, Fiore, Peterson, Slavin

Absent: Alderman Falberg

Also Present: City Attorney Ferolo, Administrative Assistant Litjens, City Clerk Baruffi

Also Absent: City Manager Coren

     2. Pledge of Allegiance

All those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

     3. Review of Minutes to be Approved

          3.1. Moved by Alderman Peterson, seconded by Alderman Slavin to approve the

                 City Council: December 19, 2017 minutes as presented. All present voting

                  aye, by voice vote, motion carried.

          3.2. Moved by Alderman Hospodarsky, seconded by Alderman Peterson to approve

                 the Committee of the Whole: December 19, 2017 minutes with the change to

                 investigate the cost rather than the installation of surveillance cameras. All

                 present voting aye, by voice vote, motion carried.

     4. Appointments (Mayor Pecaro)

     5. Approval of Warrant List:

          5.1. Moved by Alderman Fiore, seconded by Alderman Hospodarsky to approve the

                 payment of the 01/02/2018 AP Warrant List holding out the one payment to

                 Mendino Excavating, LLC., until further clarification is obtained.

Vote:

Yes: Aldermen: Fiore, Hospodarsky, Grice, Peterson, Slavin

Absent; Aldermen Falberg

     6. Public Input Items Not On Agenda

Grace Bernardi: questioned who owns the former Bertucci property and the status of the property. A project answer will be obtained by the City by the end of January 2018.

          12.1. 18-O-01 Moved by Alderman Fiore, seconded by Alderman Peterson to waive the

                   first reading and approve an Ordinance Approving and Adopting a NonHarassment

                   Policy Including Sexual Harassment. Motion carried.

Vote:

Yes: Aldermen: Fiore, Peterson, Hospodarsky, Grice

Abstain: Alderman Slavin

Absent: Alderman Falberg

Note: Alderman Slavin stated he abstained not because he does not believe that this ordinance would be good, but because he does not want to be mandated to pass an ordinance by the State. City Attorney Ferolo reviewed the points of the ordinance, including the whistle blower protection, consequences for filing false reports, reporting procedures and the investigation process.

          12.2. 180-O-02 Moved by Alderman Peterson, seconded by Alderman Fiore to waive the

                    first reading and approve an Ordinance Amending 4-1-7: Classification of

                    Licenses in the Highwood City Code to Add a Class B Liquor License. All

                    present voting aye, motion carried.

Yes: Aldermen: Peterson, Fiore, Grice, Slavin, Hospodarsky

Absent: Alderman Falberg

This license is for 200 Green Bay Road, the Greenwood Restaurant.

     13. Executive Session (If Necessary)

     14. Any Action Necessary Coming Out of Executive Session

     15. Adjournment Moved by Alderman Hospodarsky, seconded by Alderman Grice to adjourn

           the meeting. All present voting aye, by voice vote, motion carried. Mayor Pecaro

           adjourned the meeting at 7:42 P.M.
