Greater Round Lake FPD responds to 133 fires in 2017

Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded to 481 calls in 2017 - 0.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Greater Round Lake included 133 fires - 93 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 35 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $723,613 in fire loss - or about $5,441 per fire.

The department also received 343 false calls, including 12 malicious calls and 331 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $9,029,788 in 2017.

The Greater Round Lake FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 38 active employees and 10 retired or inactive employees, was $706,115 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $5,080 for every fire in 2016.
