The tributes are pouring in for the IC Catholic Prep football team after the Knights knocked off the Bishop McNamara team 31-21 to claim the school’s third straight state title.
“Congrats ICP football on your hard work and success on and off the field,” one fan wrote on the school’s Facebook page. “Parade for state champions,” raved another. “Celebration with family, friends and fans. See you along the route.”
Capping a perfect 14-0 season for the second time in three seasons, the Knights added to their storied history by winning a title in their first season at the Class 4A level. Sophomore running back Kyle Franklin led the way, rushing for 227 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Khalil Saunders added another 117 yards rushing and a score.
Franklin ended the season with 2,378 yards rushing and 37 touchdowns.
