GURNEE PARK DISTRICT: Learn to Exercise Series - How Much Exercise Per Week?

Exercise

Gurnee Park District issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.

It's a new year and I love to use a fresh start to get motivated and set some new goals. Whether you are getting back on track after the holiday season or you're just starting an exercise routine, I got you!

Exercising and getting fit can be over whelming, but I am going to teach you the basics on how to put a plan together. Simple=better!

My three blog series will go over the basics. Blog 1(this one), will focus on the amount of exercise and how to ease into a routine. Blog 2, will cover strength training basics and blog 3 will provide whole body exercises for you to try!

How much exercise a week?

To start, consider 30 minutes three times. Start incorporating walks (using the treadmill during these cold months, or the indoor track at the Hunt Club Park Community Center), and any other activity that you enjoy.

At FitNation we offer plenty of classes ranging from yoga (my favorite) to boot camps!

Check out the schedules online or at the gym.

Click for January schedule.

Click for February schedule.

Most importantly, hold yourself accountable.Use social media platforms to post your goals, utilize a smart watch or other digital fitness apps to track daily exercises or check your FitNation household account to view your check ins.

Here's how:

Once you have established getting in 3 days of exercise for a couple weeks, you can start incorporating strength training! Blog 2 will feature strength training basics. Stay motivated, best of luck with your weekly goals!
