Former state school employee Alsberg paid in $43K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $641K in retirement

Former state school employee Rayna Alsberg, who retired in July 2016, saved $43,438 toward a pension over 10 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Alsberg would collect as much as $640,960, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Lake County Gazette.

The projection assumes Alsberg received $13,472 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Alsberg will have already received $56,361 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
