Illinois State House District 61 issued the following announcement on Jan. 7

Commissioner Barbara Barreno-Paschall of the Illinois Human Rights Commission will be joining state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, for Join Joyce for Coffee and Conversation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8 at Daisy’s Artish Cafe in Lake Villa.

“As I head into the spring session, it’s critical that I continue hearing from our residents about the challenges they’re seeing in our state,” Mason said. “I know the concerns of our community are always changing and evolving, so I host regular coffee hours to make sure my legislative agenda stays in sync with the needs of our district.”

The Illinois Human Rights Commission works to protect Illinois residents from unlawful discrimination of any kind. Since 1979, the Commission has worked alongside the Illinois Department of Human Rights to uphold the principles outlined in the Illinois Human Rights Act.

“It’s also important to me that I help make our residents aware of the free services offered by our various state agencies and organizations,” Mason said. “By bringing a representative from the Illinois Human Rights Commission to one of my coffees, I hope to show residents the functions of the Commission and the ways they can utilize the services it provides.”
