ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 57: Carroll to Host Facebook Live Conversation: Explaining George Floyd to Your Children

57

Illinois State House District 57 issued the following announcement on June 9

To help parents navigate age-appropriate conversations about George Floyd, protests and racism, state Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Northbrook, will be joined by two of his colleagues in the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus for a child-friendly Facebook live discussion on Thursday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m.

“Like many parents, I’ve spent the past few weeks talking with my kids about George Floyd’s tragic death and the protests that followed,” said Carroll. “While these are extremely important conversations to be having, it can be difficult to know how to approach them in an honest, age-appropriate way. Our event this Thursday offers both parents and children the opportunity to ask questions, process what’s going on and think about what actions each of us can take.”

Over Facebook live, Carroll will be joined by state Reps. Maurice West, D-Rockford, and La Shawn Ford, D-Chicago, both of whom are members of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus, for an interactive, child-appropriate conversation about George Floyd and racial inequality. Families can join the event at https://www.facebook.com/RepCarroll beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.

“As we work together to find solutions to address these issues, I stand with my colleagues in the Black Caucus, and I welcome their perspective at every stage of the dialogue,” said Carroll. “I hope this event is helpful to parents of all backgrounds doing the necessary work to raise inclusive kids and having the tough conversations about race and discrimination at home.”
