Illinois State House District 57 issued the following announcement on Aug. 4
Dear Hockey Family,
Thank you to everyone who’s reached out about hockey. Hockey is now listed as a “Higher” risk sport similar to things like football and wrestling. As we know as those who either play or are involved with sports, non-contact hockey isn’t the same thing as traditional hockey.
I’ve been in contact with the Governor’s office and explained the differences and offered solutions to try and move non-contact hockey to a lower-risk group. They’ve been receptive and we’re working on solutions.
Here’s what you can do to help…reach out to your state Representative and Senators’ offices and ask he/she to advocate for non-contact hockey. Ask your coaches, rink owners, and others to do the same. It will help increase awareness around this issue. If you don’t know who to contact, please visit https://www.elections.il.gov/…/districtl…/AddressFinder.aspx.
I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe during these incredibly challenging times. The health and safety of our community must be our top priority.
