Highland Park FD responds to 44 fires in 2018

Highland Park Fire District responded to 1501 calls in 2018 - 1.3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Highland Park included 44 fires - 21 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to six calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $858,313 in fire loss - or about $19,507 per fire.

The department also received 1451 false calls, including 17 malicious calls and 1434 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related deaths. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Highland Park Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 49 active employees and 60 retired or inactive employees, was $1,310,247 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $26,740 for every fire in 2017.
