Gurnee Park District issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.

As you are probably aware, Governor Prtizker announced that the entire state of Illinois will be entering into Phase 4 Tier 3 mitigation effective Friday, November 20th at 12:01am in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. These changes do have a significant impact on our recreational and fitness services. While we cannot predict what the coming weeks and months will bring, we remain hopeful that these mitigation efforts will help and allow us to return to operations at a fuller capacity before long. The health and well-being of our community has been and remains our utmost priority, and all decisions on how the District can meet recreational needs will focus first on maintaining public health.

Below is a listing of updates by area of interest.

FitNation

Tier 3 mitigation requires some changes at FitNation:

  • 25% capacity (60 people)
  • Reservation required
  • Mask must be worn at ALL times while in the facility
  • No group fitness classes
  • Locker rooms closed
More details about FitNation operations can be found here.

Preschool/Before and After School CARE/Days Off School Programs

Preschool and CARE will operate with no changes at this time. We will continue to maintain all recommended safety and capacity guidelines set forth by the State and CDC. All November Days Off School programs are cancelled and December Days Off are under evaluation.

Current Pre-Registration Programs

In session programs including swim lessons, in-person dance, and contractual programs such as martial arts, gymnastics and others will be cancelled or modified to a virtual platform through the remainder of their Fall sessions. Program Managers will communicate with customers about the details of each specific program on or after 11/19/20.

Playgrounds/Parks

We encourage residents to visit our parks regularly while practicing social distancing. Please remember to limit any groups to household members only and follow recommended safety guidelines for masks, hand washing etc.

Sports

Organized indoor sports are not permitted at this time. Please keep in mind that non-household groups should not be gathering on any sports fields under Tier 3 guidelines. Pre-registration leagues and programming have been cancelled. Program Managers will communicate further details on or after 11/19/20.

Winter Program Guide/Future Programs

Our Winter Program Guide which covers such programs and information as fitness, basketball, upcoming preschool year registration, dance, swim lessons and more will be delayed to assess what programming may be offered as of January 2021. We will still have several festive virtual programs available for you to enjoy and will communicate those through our website, social media and email newsletters. We will update the community once the guide is made available online.

Winter Events

We will be offering several virtual holiday activities for you to enjoy. Please visit us online for more details as these activities are released.

We will continue to provide updates to you as new details are released or when changes are made to mitigation restrictions. These are certainly trying times. We remain committed to serving our community and doing our part to supporting our community during this pandemic. We thank you for your continued support and cooperation during these unprecedented times.
