The governor is aware that his budget plan should be balanced, which he mentioned on page 18 of his proposal, Sen. Craig Wilcox (R-McHenry) has noted reacting to Gov. Pritzker’s budget address.

Wilcox recommends that the budget proposal should not be passed by the Legislature and a truly balanced budget should be crafted.

According to him, the budget should also be one that could help businesses rebuild and recover amid the pandemic, saying that the “budget will place a greater burden on our private employers and our private sector employees.”

“Government-imposed shutdowns have decimated the small business community, and rather than imposing new taxes on them, the governor should be providing a pathway for them to rebuild and recover,” Wilcox further said in a statement. “We need to create jobs and opportunities to help our state emerge from this economic downturn.”

Wilcox also slammed Pritzker’s decision to roll back key economic incentives.

“By reneging [on the Blue Jobs Act of 2019] reforms, Gov. Pritzker is turning his back on Illinoisans who want to work, earn a living, and support their families. I will continue to be a voice for those who the governor routinely ignores,” he said.

The senator is also looking for proposals on pension reforms.
