In one of the closest races in recent memory, Lincolnshire native Tom Munger has officially secured a seat on the Village Board of Trustees—winning by just 10 votes.
After weeks of uncertainty and steadily updated vote counts, Munger—whose lead shrank to just two votes at one point–emerged as one of the top three vote-getters in the four-way race for three trustee seats.
As of the latest tally on April 16, Jill Raizin led with 800 votes (31.9%), followed by Robert Mitchell with 606 votes (24.2%) and Munger with 556 votes (22.2%). Elliot Dubin finished just behind with 546 votes (21.8%). Final certification of the results is expected on April 21.
Munger finally had cause to celebrate following the latest vote release on April 16.
"I'm really excited to join the Village Board as a new Trustee!” Munger told the Lake County Gazette. “Lincolnshire is an amazing community, and I am looking forward to contributing to its success in the years ahead. I want to thank my wife Annelise, who took great care of our son James while I was at meetings and knocking on doors, and my parents, John and Leslie, who volunteered their own time and energy to help me campaign. I want to thank the residents for supporting me—I will do my best to be a thoughtful and considerate member of the Board. I look forward to getting to work!”
A first-time candidate, Munger relied on a grassroots campaign centered around door-to-door outreach and direct conversations with residents. His campaign emphasized responsible fiscal management, strategic infrastructure investment and ensuring Lincolnshire remains a family friendly community.
Munger, who recently moved back to Lincolnshire with his wife and newborn son, said his decision to run was rooted in his love for the community where he grew up.
With a background in mechanical engineering and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, Munger said he plans to apply his strategic mindset to issues like long-term infrastructure improvements, flood prevention and sustainable economic development.
