Scott Gartner is committed to being the change he feels is needed in Antioch.

“The town’s become stagnant and it’s time for new ideas and new visions,” Gartner told the Lake County Gazette of his challenge to Mayor Larry Hanson. “I think it just needs someone to work for all the residents in Antioch and not just the people that have always been taken care of.”

With Hansen having been in power for 26 years, the last 12 as mayor, Gartner said he’s also started to see some things that have caught his attention in terms of mixing town and personal interests.

“Whether it’s regarding the new developments in New Haven or whether it’s regarding the marijuana dispensary he’s trying to put where his current business partner purchased the building, it’s raised eyebrows,” he said.  “Plus, the downtown business district has stayed stagnant while others have flourished.”

Gartner, an attorney by trade, said he got into the race because he does not like the way politics are trending across the country and in his own neck of the woods.

“I see the divide in the county where people are not trusting of local government,” Gartner added. “I will continue to work as hard as I can to make Antioch the best little town in the county.”

The owner of a local small business, Gartner said he is committed to revitalizing the county by supporting local businesses and recruiting new ones. Much of his plan centers on lowering the tax burden on businesses to make it easier for them to operate.

The father of two young daughters, Gartner is active across the community and is a member of  Antioch Planning and Zoning (present), Antioch Rotary Club (past president), Antioch Lions Club Antioch Chamber of Commerce, Lake County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
