Mundelein village trustee Dawn Abernathy's run for mayor against two-term incumbent Steve Lentz fell short, with her finishing fourth in the April 6 contest.
According to the Daily Herald, with all precincts reporting, Abernathy had 586 votes — well short of Lentz's winning tally of 1,141.
If elected, Abernathy had promised a new Mundelein during her term, including more responsible spending highlighted by lower property taxes across the board.
"Voters should vote for me because I will be a full-time mayor that will be proactive to bring businesses to the empty storefronts in town," Abernathy previously told the Lake County Gazette. "I will provide open communication with all the residents in town, giving them a voice. I will work to bring infrastructure repairs and again, be proactive, not reactive to issues."
Abernathy added her run was based on the growing feelings she had about the village headed in the wrong direction under Lentz's guidance.
"I don't believe in the 'build it, and it will come' mentality," she said. "More homes do not bring more business. I will work with all the trustees, no matter if they agree with me or not. I will build consensus with all the trustees and make sure Mundelein is moving in the right direction."
