Illinois state Sen. Adriane Johnson's (D-Gurnee) office is accepting applications for high school and college students looking for government office internships.
“I want to give young people a chance to make a difference in our community while gaining valuable experience working in government,” Johnson wrote in a Facebook post on April 13. “If you’re an energetic, driven student who’s interested in public service, I encourage you to apply to be a part of our team.”
Interns hired will be required to commit five hours per week beginning in May until August, but scheduling will be flexible, according to the release.
Johnson's also noted that college credit may be earned for those eligible and seeking it through the position.
As part of the position, interns will help Johnson's office in "helping plan events, assisting with outreach to community organizations and local government and researching legislative initiatives."
The hiring of interns will occur on a rolling basis, as candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Applications, complete with a resume and brief explanation as to their interest in the position and why, should be emailed to Priyanka Khanna at pkhanna@senatedem.ilga.gov.
