The concert will take place at Community Park, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Community Park is located at 5 Park View Lane, at the corner of Old McHenry and Quentin Roads. So, grab your lawn chairs, pack a picnic, and enjoy our summer concert series!

Old McHenry Road Crossings Engineering Study

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) has begun a Phase I Engineering Study for the areas surrounding the Old McHenry Road and the Canadian National (CN) Railroad Crossing and along Quentin Road.

LCDOT seeks to improve safety, traffic operations, and connectivity for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians within and surrounding the Old McHenry Road and CN Railroad area. The project will evaluate the feasibility of constructing a new grade separation at the CN Railroad tracks, meaning motorists will not have to sit and wait for the nearly 20 trains that pass through each day.

The project team is just now getting started and community participation is most welcome. A virtual open house for the community will be planned this fall.

Visit the project website: Here you can learn more about the project, including maps of the study area, timeline, and frequently asked questions. As the project progresses, documents will be posted to the website. Be sure to click on the “Comment Map” tool where you can add your inputs directly to the map at https://omxproject.com/ [omxproject.com].

The Lake County Division of Transportation welcomes your participation!

The Delta Variant And Updated Guidance

The Delta variant continues to spread at a rapid pace around the country. It is highly transmissible and is accounting for more than 80% of COVID-19 cases in the United States. Cases are increasing daily and are projected to bring Lake County into the substantial level of transmission if this trend continues. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated their guidance and recommends that everyone, vaccinated and unvaccinated, wear a mask indoors in areas with substantial and high transmission. New guidance also recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools. To keep track of transmission by county, check out the CDC page COVID-19 Integrated County View.

Getting as many people vaccinated as possible against COVID-19 continues to be the most effective way to control the pandemic. All COVID-19 vaccines currently authorized in the United States are effective against COVID-19, including severe disease, hospitalization, and death.

Having additional layered prevention strategies will also continue to control the spread. Layered prevention strategies include:

  • Vaccinations, for those eligible
  • Masking
  • Social distancing
  • Contact tracing
  • Testing
  • Staying home when sick
  • Infection control precautions (e.g. hand sanitizer locations, cleaning and disinfection of commonly used surfaces)

Village News

An Update From Mayor Dominick DiMaggio

Commercial Solicitation in the Village of Hawthorn Woods

During our most recent Village Board Meeting on July 26, 2021, Mayor Dominick DiMaggio and the Village Board of Trustees took action to comply with the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. As mandated, the Village Board passed an ordinance allowing commercial solicitors to knock on residential doors. Please click here to view the new solicitation ordinance

As a result, you may encounter commercial solicitors at your door. However, the solicitors must wear a permit, visible to residents. Our Community Development Department must approve a solicitation application in order to issue a permit. Once the application is approved, the Village will provide commercial solicitors with a permit pin-on card which includes the following information:

  • Name of the soliciting company
  • Effective date of the permit
  • The dates in which the solicitation shall occur
  • A photograph of the solicitor

If you do not want solicitors to come to your door, you can post a “No Solicitors” or “No Solicitors Invited” notice near the main entrance door to your residence. For your convenience, we are providing a “No Solicitors” notice to post at your home. Please click here for a printable “No Solicitors” notice.

If you should have any questions, please contact Village Hall at (847) 438-5500.
