City of Highwood Strategic Planning Committee Met May 18.

The Meeting was called to order by Mayor Charles Pecaro at 6:14 pm. Council members Eric Falberg, James Hospodarsky, James Levi, and Andy Peterson were present. Aldermen Michael Fiore and Brad Slavin were absent. Also present were staff members Scott Coren, Chris Martin, Jaime Litjens and Police Chief David Wentz.
The President and Executive Director of the Library presented on the Highwood Library raising funds for the renovation of the library, winning the Institute of Museum and Library Science Gold Medal award, and on concepts raising money to change their staffing model.
Project Prioritization
The Council discussed project prioritization over the next year. The Council made the following changes to the project prioritization:
∙ Modified Goal #3 from “Advocacy of the process to move City operations to an alternative location and sell the existing City Hall site” to “Complete an assessment of the Public Works building as a potential future municipal complex that would include City Hall and the Police Department.
∙ For Goal #4, there was a concern that previous development proposals for the site around the 400 block of Sheridan Road are too large, dense and high for that specific area. The Council discussed the possibility of looking to acquire properties and work over the next year to vision what the sites could become.
Regarding secondary priorities, the Council expressed interest in emphasizing street sign branding, the Fort Sheridan Planning Agreement, video camera opportunities and amortization opportunities over the other listed secondary priorities.

There being no further business Alderman Falberg made a motion to adjourn, with a second by Alderman Peterson. The motion carried at 8:15 pm.
