2022 Sponsor-a-Planter Program

Through the Sponsor-a-Planter Program, the City of Highland Park offers community members and local businesses an opportunity to beautify the City's Central Business District and the Ravinia District by sponsoring one or more available planters during the summer and fall seasons.

Sponsors may choose to be recognized on a 5”x7” placard featured in the planter, or they may choose to recognize or memorialize an individual or family. Sponsors will also be recognized on the City's website.

To participate, sponsors pay an annual fee to the City for the flower planting and maintenance as well as the addition of the 5"x7" placard for one season (May—Nov).

Annual cost of a planter sponsorship, including the placard:

Large Planter: $750

Medium Planter: $350

Flower Pot: $200

If you are interested in sponsoring a planter, please download the flyer and application form. Please contact the Office of Business Development with questions at 847.926.1027.

Lead Service Lines: Learn & Act!

Following the 2014 Flint, Michigan crisis, concerns about lead contamination of water have received a lot of publicity and spawned legislation at the state and federal levels. Last year, the US Environmental Protection Agency revised its Lead and Copper Rule and Illinois enacted companion rules intended to eliminate all lead service lines over a period of time.

A water service line has two components: the public service line, which is owned and maintained by the City, and the private service line, which is owned and maintained by property owners. The City developed an interactive map identifying the size and material of both public and private service lines for all properties within the City. The interactive map does not have data on all private service lines. To find out if you have a lead, copper, or galvanized steel service on your property, you (or your landlord) can perform a Materials Verification Test on the water service line where it enters your home to determine the material of the water service line on your property.

Public Works has prepared a summary to assist residents with the replacement of private lead service lines, including information on identifying the composition of the private service line and the City's cost-share replacement program.
