State Rep. Martin McLaughlin (R-Lake Barrington) said he is running for re-election in order to work towards improving the state's business climate and other priorities.
"I am running for re-election to fix our state, so that businesses are attracted to and remain in Illinois, creating high-paying jobs for residents of the 52nd District," McLaughlin said on Facebook. "So families can raise their children in Illinois, and those children are able to start careers and find success so that they put down roots in our state. So Illinois seniors can retire and thrive while remaining in their home state close to family and lifelong friends. Someone has to stick up for taxpayers and small businesses whose backs are breaking carrying the ever-increasing tax burdens placed upon them by Springfield and local taxing bodies."
McLaughlin was elected in 2020, securing 54% of the vote to defeat Democrat Marci Suelzer, according to Ballotpedia. He will face off against Democrat Mary Morgan in the upcoming general election. During his term, McLaughlin has served on the following committees: Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, and IT Committee; Elections & Campaign Finance Committee; Ethics & Elections Committee; and the Prescription Drug Affordability & Accessibility Committee.
The Sheriffs of Illinois PAC recently announced its endorsement of McLaughlin.
"As a former mayor and current state legislator, I Back the Blue 100%," McLaughlin said in response on Facebook. "Here's to the brave men and women who go out every day to protect our families. They deserve our respect, admiration and support."
McLaughlin previously served as Village President of Barrington Hills, where he worked to reform spending and reduce the size of the local government, according to his website.
