Insurance companies typically determine one’s home insurance rate using a number of factors, mainly personal history and features of the home, but other determinants are taken into consideration if the home is in an area notorious for theft and crime. With prevalent crime affecting the Chicagoland area, candidate for State Senate in the 31st District Adam Solano provided this statement to the Lake County Gazette.

"Higher crime rates inevitably lead to inflating our insurance premiums. Crime leads to property damage, auto accidents, medical bills, stolen goods and services, disabilities and loss of life," Solano said. "You may never experience a loss caused by a criminal act, but we all end up paying for crime when insurance rates increase. If you live in one of the zip codes in Lake County experiencing skyrocketing crime – which is just about all of them – expect increases to your home, auto and business insurance premiums next year. It's bad enough when the Democrat Party keeps raising our taxes, but now their soft-on-crime-demoralize-the-police actions will take even more of our hard-earned money."

Solano is a native to Lake County and has lived in Grayslake since 1996. He began his career in financial services in 1993 and later branded his practice under Lakeside Financial Group. He has continuously served in local professional groups, providing his knowledge to peers in the same profession and mentoring up and comers.

CrimeGrade.org reported on the crime rates in Lake County, listing the overall crime grade at a B+. Specific crimes receiving a lower grade were as follows: Robbery crime grade at a C, theft crime grade at a C and vehicle theft crime at a C-.

Coverhound insurance learning center points out that the location of one’s home plays a large role in calculating insurance costs when certain crime statistics are taken into consideration.
