At the Nov. 1 meeting of the Village of Wauconda board, the board discussed a new purchasing contract for four pickup trucks for the village.

Jacob Mann, the director of Public Works, told the board that purchasing supplies has gotten difficult for municipalities recently, especially the purchase new vehicles. He added that the order the board discussed should have been handled back in June of 2022, but it kept getting pushed back.

The board had to get in its final vote on the matter – including the number and prices – because it was unsure when the purchasing window would actually open and how long the window would be open for. The village is still waiting on a pickup truck that the board purchased in 2021, so it plans on purchasing four at one time to try and get two trucks for the 2022 year and two for the 2023 year.

“It doesn't guarantee that we're going to get any,” Mann said. “Then we would just have to, I guess, regroup at that point. But this will at least get board-level approval. So we will be ready to hit the ground running in case we do get the pricing.”

The village won’t pay for the vehicles until it actually receives them. The board approved a contract of four pickup trucks for a maximum of combined $225,000. This would include a fully outfitted truck with plows. This order could be pulled back on if the board needs to better fit it within the budget.

The board also voted to approve a resolution that requested approximately $4.2 million to be levied for the 2022 tax year.

The board will meet again at 6 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the Village Hall board room on 7101 North Main St.
