TransChicago has backed out of plans for a proposed trucking facility near Gurnee, a topic that was on the agenda of the Dec. 19 Village of Gurnee board meeting, so village leaders had to adjust meeting plans.

“So as for tonight, because that withdrawal occurred, there won't be a hearing,” Mayor Thomas Hood said in a video of the meeting. “There won't be a presentation made by the petitioner. There won't be a need for a response, since there's no petition being presented to the village board, so it'll be terminated.”

TransChicago can apply and begin the process anew with the zoning board should it reconsider the plan, the mayor added.

“There was a request for a continuance, which was denied,” Hood said. “We wanted to have it heard tonight if it was going to be heard.”

TransChicago had proposed a trucking facility at a 16-acre lot across the street from several subdivisions, much to the chagrin of residents. Many in the neighborhoods came together to oppose the proposal, saying they wanted to keep the peace and quiet of their neighborhood.

The site isn’t zoned for such usage, so the petitioner would have had to bring it before the zoning board, CBS Chicago reported

Residents who showed up at the board meeting were pleased with the withdrawal of TransChicago’s application. Several stayed until the public comment time to thank the mayor and the village for their work on the issue, even though the matter was no longer up for discussion. The mayor also thanked the residents for coming out to show how they felt about the issue and for doing so in a professional yet passionate manner.
