Lake Bluff hosts Memorial Day Observance: ‘A beautiful wreath was placed at the War Memorial on the Green’

Lake Bluff boy scouts and community members hosted a memorial day observance in Lake Bluff was held on Monday, May 29. 

“Friends, if you weren't able to attend the Memorial Day Observance in Lake Bluff today and wished you could have been there, I posted videos of the event under the ‘Discussion’ section of the event's page,” Deborah Fischer said on Facebook. “Under a sparkling blue sky, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from Lake Bluff Troop 42 raised the ceremonial flag, the LFHS Band and musicians and a vocalist from Lake Forest High School performed, community dignitaries spoke, and ‘Taps’ and a 21 Gun Salute were rendered. And last, a beautiful wreath was placed at the War Memorial on the Green. It was a lovely ceremony that paid moving tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedom. Sincere thanks to all who participated and all who attended!”

The Memorial Day Observance is an annual event in Lake Bluff. Lake Bluff Scout BSA Troop 42 has been part of the Memorial Day Observances in Lake Bluff for a number of years already. This year they were joined by members of the United States Marine Corp Rifle Detail Group 48 Great Lakes Naval Station. Held at The Gazebo on the Village Green, the event was also participated by the Lake Forest High School Band    

“Memorial Day is the day we honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Always held the last Monday in May, it originated in the years following the Civil War and has been an official federal holiday since 1971,” the event listing on Facebook reads.

Lake Bluff’s event was one of many held across the region, according to Patch.

Fischer is a real estate broker at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago. She graduated from Lake Forest High School. She is also the group administrator of the Protect the Lake Bluff Golf Course Facebook community.
