Sen. Dan McConchie (R-Lake Zurich) recently issued a statement making no secret of his joy in seeing Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx go.
“The people of Cook County should feel a bit of relief given today’s news that Kim Foxx is not seeking re-election as Cook County State’s Attorney," McConchie said. “Over the years, her skewed philosophy of the criminal justice system has been nothing more than a slap in the face to victims and further endangered residents, businesses and visitors of Chicagoland."
As part of his statement issued on May 31, McConchie accused Foxx of working too hard in putting the rights of the perpetrator ahead of victims. “Now is the time to ensure that the next prosecutor is committed to the rule of law and will hold criminals accountable. We need a state’s attorney who will ensure the safety and well-being of both Chicago and all of Cook County,” McConchie said.
Foxx's decision not to seek reelection appears to be impacted by her struggles with fundraising, with campaign fundraising disclosures showing that since taking office more than two-years ago in 2021 she has only been able to raise $9,000, with the majority of that coming from single donor Michael Sachs, according to NBC5 Chicago.
During her tenure, Foxx saw her term marked by a running feud with then-Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and top brass at the Chicago Police Department, both of whom charged she was was too soft on crime and often fell short in cases involving high-profile defendants such as actor Jussie Smollett and former R&B star R. Kelly.
Foxx's term in office was also marked by high turnover and issues with staffing, with nearly one-third of her prosecutors and staff walking away from their positions over a year-long period beginning in 2021.
