The Lake Forest Caucus Committee is actively seeking candidates to join the caucus. The positions serve as an opportunity for community members to shape the town's governance and decision-making.

“The Caucus Committee currently has two open positions each in Wards 2 and 3,” the Lake Forest Caucus Committee said in its June newsletter. “The Caucus Committee meets for 2 hours every two weeks from September through April. In addition, Committee members are asked to volunteer on search and other sub-committees that may take 3 hours a week of your time. The mission of the Caucus Committee is to identify, recruit, interview, and recommend qualified candidates to serve on the Boards and Commissions of the City of Lake Forest, as well as School Boards.

“The Lake Forest Caucus is a non-partisan organization that seeks to promote civic engagement. A full term on the Caucus Committee is 3 years and an individual may only serve once. Serving on the Caucus Committee is a wonderful way to meet and collaborate with our neighbors, learn more about municipal government, and strengthen our community.

“If you are interested in being considered, please submit a Volunteer Profile Sheet.”

After submitting the profile sheet, prospective candidates can expect the Ward Chairs to conduct initial interviews and provide ongoing support, ensuring any questions or concerns are promptly addressed.

All registered voters residing in the City of Lake Forest are invited to participate in the caucus.

While City positions require a one-year residency in Lake Forest as mandated by law, no prior experience is necessary for appointed positions on City Boards and Commissions, although relevant skills are generally preferred. The selection process emphasizes an individual's qualifications, knowledge of the pertinent issues, commitment level, civility and willingness to serve. The selection of candidates is conducted on a nonpartisan basis, ensuring fair representation.

“Founded in 1935, the Lake Forest Caucus is a volunteer organization that identifies qualified Lake Forest residents to serve as volunteers on City of Lake Forest boards and commissions,” the Lake Forest Caucus website said. “For over 80 years the Caucus attracted qualified and willing candidates to such positions to help keep Lake Forest the special place it is.”
