Property owners residing in unincorporated Lake County may be eligible for an average annual saving of $232 on their flood insurance policies. To date, more than 654 such policies have been issued.

According to a Lake County press release, residents who meet certain requirements can avail up to 20% savings on flood insurance premiums through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) program. This could potentially lead to an aggregate annual saving of $151,708 for residents across the county.

The same press release informs that Lake County has been a participant in the CRS program since 2008. The county's favorable ratings have allowed property owners to save significantly on their insurance policies.

Lake County has also issued permits to elevate the finished floor of existing structures above the regulatory floodplain elevation, as per another press release from Lake County. In addition, projects have been undertaken to elevate utilities or add foundation openings, thereby bringing the structure into compliance.
