The Mundelein Board of Trustees, in conjunction with the Mundelein Arts Commission, recently recognized Joyce Lee for her significant contributions during her tenure as chair of the commission. Lee was appointed to this position on July 25, 2016, marking the start of a period of significant development and enrichment within the local arts scene.

"Joyce’s love for her community and the arts is apparent through her many contributions to the arts in Mundelein. The programs and projects she helped launch during her tenure as MAC chair have greatly enriched the Mundelein community, and the Commission is endlessly grateful for her expertise and years of dedicated volunteerism," said Colleen Malec, Senior Planner and MAC Village Liaison, according to a press release from the Village of Mundelein.

Under Lee's leadership, the Mundelein Arts Commission (MAC) embarked on a mission to enhance the quality of life in the village through cultural, visual, and performance art initiatives. This information was disclosed in a press release issued by the Village of Mundelein.

Malec further highlighted that public art has been a key focus area under Lee's guidance. She led several noteworthy projects including installation of public art such as "Mundelein" mural on Park Street, Stars on Parade exhibit, Susurro sculpture, Earth Flight sculpture, and a mural at Lions Park Skate Park.

The MAC also introduced several programs under Lee's direction. These included a Short Story Writing Contest, "A Christmas Carol" musical production, "Summer Shakespeare short", Photo Contest and "Lure of the Local" art exhibition. Other initiatives included chalk art events, music events along with poetry and storytelling events. All these details were confirmed by a press release from the Village of Mundelein.
