The Waukegan Police Department has requested the city council's approval for the acquisition of a 2023 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor. This new vehicle is intended to replace one that was totalled in an accident involving a driver under the influence.

According to a justification letter attached to the Waukegan City Council agenda for its February 20 meeting, the police department plans to purchase the vehicle directly from Currie Motors. The dealership currently has the desired model in stock and is an authorized state bid agent, as well as an existing city vendor for vehicle purchases.

The same justification letter reveals that Currie Motors has offered a price of $46,121 for the vehicle. This quote includes a discount of $6,614 extended to the city.

In addition, it was noted in the justification letter that Police Explorers outfitted as squad vehicles are hard to come by. Currie Motors happens to have this specific type of vehicle available in its inventory.

This proposed acquisition would mark the second out of three budgeted replacements for vehicles deemed total losses due to accidents, as per information provided in the justification letter.
