The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission is set to consider an emergency appropriation of $394,105 for the creation and restoration of wetlands. This project has been conceived to compensate for the loss of 2.6 acres of isolated wetlands due to development.
According to the agenda for the Feb. 28 meeting of the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, the Grainger Woods Hydrologic Restoration Project under the Lake County Forest Preserve District in Mettawa, Illinois aims to create 23.7 acres of wetland. This initiative will offset the loss of 2.6 acres of wetlands.
As per the same agenda, it is highlighted that the SMC Wetland Restoration Fund channels fees collected from wetland impacts into a deferred revenue account for each of the county's four major watersheds.
The proposed emergency appropriation includes $39,410 allocated for the administrative fee of SMC, as outlined in the agenda for the Feb. 28 meeting of the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission.
