The City of Waukegan Planning & Zoning Department is set to conduct public meetings aimed at simplifying and updating its regulations pertaining to development, business, and land use.
According to a press release from the City of Waukegan, the Unified Development Ordinance project will gather input from various city departments and external stakeholders. The objective of this update is to create a Unified Development Ordinance that organizes and modifies development regulations in Waukegan. Changes will be made to several ordinances including the Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, and Landscape and Tree Preservation Ordinance.
In another press release by the City of Waukegan, it was announced that two public meetings have been scheduled to disseminate information about the proposed changes and their potential impact. The first meeting is slated for Thursday, March 7, from 4-7:30 p.m. at Waukegan City Hall located at 100 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., in the council chambers on the second floor. The second meeting will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Waukegan Field House Sports, Fitness & Aquatics Center situated at 800 Baldwin Ave.
According to information available on the City of Waukegan's website, the original Unified Development Ordinance was approved back in 1987. Since then numerous amendments have been made necessitating a comprehensive review and overhaul.
