Mayor Thomas B. Hood | Village of Gurnee
Residents of the Village of Gurnee have been granted an additional month to make payments for the 2024 Parkway Tree project, which aims to plant 60 new parkway trees in the village.
According to a press release from the Village of Gurnee, the village offers its residents a 50/50 program designed to increase the number of trees within the parkway. This voluntary initiative is limited to owner-occupied homes.
The same press release indicates that the village covers half of the tree costs, with residents responsible for funding the remaining $175. The village's arborists provide a comprehensive list of approved tree species for planting. These species have been selected based on their habitat suitability, disease resistance, and cultural tolerances.
According to another Village of Gurnee press release, planting is only permitted within the parkway. While residents can suggest potential locations, these suggestions will be reviewed for suitability and to avoid any conflicts with utilities. The trees must be placed midway between the curb (or pavement edge) and the sidewalk (or 7 feet from the pavement for locations without a sidewalk), at least 30 feet away from any other parkway trees, and at least 45 feet away from an intersection.
