Residents of Buffalo Grove are being offered an in-depth view of law enforcement operations through a nine-week, hands-on program called the Citizen Police Academy. The academy is scheduled to meet on Wednesday evenings.
According to a press release from Buffalo Grove, participants will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of police work such as firearms safety, traffic enforcement, and crime scene processing. They will be learning alongside officers from the Buffalo Grove Police Department. The program is set to run from March 13 through May 8.
The same press release also states that the Citizen Police Academy will be hosted by the Buffalo Grove Police Department at their headquarters located at 46 Raupp Blvd. To qualify for membership, individuals must be at least 21 years old and either reside or work within the village.
The press release further reveals that the Citizen Police Academy was initiated in 1997. Certified police instructors will guide academy students in understanding different facets of police work. This includes RADAR and LIDAR usage in speed enforcement, traffic crash investigation techniques, public information sharing strategies, defensive tactics, CPR certification procedures, among other topics.
