Over 50 residents of Mundelein were left homeless after their apartment building was critically damaged by a confirmed tornado, prompting the community to rally in support.
The affected building, located within the boundaries of both the Mundelein High School district and the Hawthorn District 73, is expected to remain uninhabitable for a considerable period, as stated in a post on the Village of Mundelein's Facebook page.
Community liaisons from the school districts are collaborating with homeless liaisons to assist these displaced families, according to another post on the Village of Mundelein's Facebook page. Additional support is being provided by The Red Cross and Lake County Emergency Response.
In response to inquiries about how to help, community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable foods, new clothing items, and toiletries. As per another update on the Village of Mundelein's Facebook page, these donations should be delivered to the Welcome Center at 1500 West Hawley. Gift cards for stores such as Walmart, Target, Aldi, and Jewel are also being collected by community liaisons.
Monetary contributions can be made at https://hawthorn73.revtrak.net/donations/?fbclid=IwAR2BFyf5piSEXtZsEQzbgUESkdMRUl08nSJH6sWKRGWXxxfnkqmbojhyyZE. Donors are advised to mark "families from weather damage" in the comments section when making their donation, as mentioned in yet another post on the Village of Mundelein's Facebook page.
